Comparison of ticket fees, payment processing, VAT as a cost and the subscription for the year described. This figure is not total net earnings.

  • One subscription year everywhere: the same number of paid tickets at the same price every month, one order per ticket, each paid with a standard EEA card. The organizer carries every fee, and guests pay the same price everywhere.
  • Worked example for an Austrian organizer that is a business without input VAT deduction (say, a small business under § 6(1) Z27 UStG), gives its providers no VAT ID and sells tickets without VAT. VAT on fees is a cost to it; where a provider charges no VAT, any Austrian reverse-charge VAT due, at 20%, is included. The example holds only while ticket revenue stays VAT-free, under the small-business exemption up to €55,000 a year. Unconfirmed tax or payment charges are marked unknown and are not treated as zero.
  • GatherMatter e.U. currently charges no VAT on its own platform fees and subscriptions under the small-business exemption in § 6(1) Z27 UStG.

Assumptions

  • Trara Pro: the subscription is included as twelve monthly payments, €828.00 in total. Paid annually it costs €490.00 per subscription year.
  • Trara Pro: the allowance of €50,000 in ticket revenue applies per calendar year. An annual plan earns the full allowance, a monthly plan a twelfth per paid month, and a trial none. The example counts twelve paid months in one calendar year whose sales use up the allowance; revenue above it carries 1%.
  • Trara: Free includes payment processing in the fee. Pro adds exactly Stripe’s costs for payment and payout, plus a 20% cost share for non-deductible reverse-charge VAT while the small-business exemption applies. This is not VAT shown on our invoice. The example counts 1.5% + €0.25 per payment, Stripe’s price for a standard EEA card, and one payout a month with 0.25% of the amount paid out, €0.10 per payout and €2.00 for the month. These costs are in the payment processing row.
  • Trara Free: if what we keep of a calendar month’s fees after Stripe’s costs does not cover Stripe’s fixed account costs (€2.00 for a month with a payout and €0.10 per payout, each plus a 20% cost share), we deduct the missing part, at most these costs, from the payout as Stripe account costs. The example counts one payout a month and shows these costs in the payment processing row.
  • Eventbrite: the organizer carries the fees, which the source says is allowed.
  • Not included: refunds, cancellation fees, add-ons and anything a source does not state. This figure is not total net earnings.

Payment processing

Free:included in the fee, through Stripe. If what we keep of a calendar month’s fees after Stripe’s costs does not cover Stripe’s fixed account costs (€2.00 for a month with a payout and €0.10 per payout, each plus a 20% cost share), we deduct the missing part, at most these costs, from the payout as Stripe account costs.

Pro:additionally exactly Stripe’s costs for payment and payout: per payment the rate of the card or payment method used, 1.5% + €0.25 with a standard EEA card; per payout 0.25% of the amount paid out and €0.10, and €2.00 for every calendar month with a payout. Plus a 20% cost share for non-deductible reverse-charge VAT while the small-business exemption applies. This is not VAT shown on our invoice. Estimated at purchase, settled at payout.
